I'm still listening to it but here's what I've got so far.
You've had a really hard day and you want to go home and kick back in your easy chair, pour a drink, put on some soothing music. You love Irish music and don't want electronic music or waves and chirping birds. "Welcome Here Again" will be the CD you want.
With the exception of a couple all the tunes are tradtional and none are played blazing fast. At first I thought I was hearing a harp and kept checking the jacket to see who it was, but, no harp. Just Dennis being tastfully subtle on his guitar. He's this way through the entire recording, playing just enough to bring out Martin's fiddle. I hate using this phrase but it added warmth to every note.
If I had to put a word picture to the recording I'd have to say my mind thinks of a lazy river flowing by. Nope, there's no water sounds, just the feel relaxing being on a tube going down a slow river.
Tracks that jump out and grabb me are:
I'm not sure #2, The High Jig, is normaly played at that slow a pace but it was perfect! Makes me think I should slow down some of the jigs and reels I play to see how it would change the dynamics.
#4, The Dear Irish Boy was another that grabbed me and made me want to search out the history of this tune. Is it about a mother losing her dear son? A poor girl losing her love? Again, it may be one that's not normaly played as an air but if so it is very effective as a heart grabber.
#5, The Night They Stretched Poor Larry is my favorite. I could imagine myself sitting in the cell with poor Larry playing cards on his coffin as he awaited his fate.
#6, P. Joe's Reel got me cheered up again. This tune is one of those where you imagine yourself strolling down a pathway without a care in the world.
The track I got a big kick out of was #13, Mulqueens. I play Mulqueens quite a bit and would have never thought of arraning it like Martin and Dennis did here. (that's why they are paid the big bucks) Another to make me rethink some of the tempo's I play tunes at.
I'm still listening to it so if anything new comes to mind I'll add it.
Being released by Green Linnet
